Electronic Flight Bag

Product Design | User Interface Design

Working with product owners and pilots, I helped design and implement an aviation-grade digital Electronic Flight Bag, or EFB, for British Airways subsidiaries Comair and Kulula. An EFB is an electronic information management device that helps flight crews perform flight management tasks more easily and efficiently with less paper, providing the reference material often found in the pilot's carry-on flight bag

My focus was on making sure all designs aligned to business objectives and implementing the best experience. Observational research was conducted with the pilots in the cockpit to determine the best way to optimise our application.

The initial concept was to merge the existing web-based application with a service that would allow the pilots to see all stats for their flights. With our understanding of what is possible and needed, we built a lean prototype of what we wanted to create. We then proceeded with development and optimisation using Agile principles and worked with developers on implementing new features where needed.

We developed a product that will help Comair and Kulula fly more competitively and efficiently, and which is very user friendly both in the cockpit and online.
